Rip OFF with a capital R! The atmosphere was early attic late cellar, if fact I expected granny to come out of the kitchen. No music, dried flowers equals no taste! For was tasteless and overpriced. We had French onion soup, onions were few and cheese atop well cheesy... All in all stay home. You will have a better meal!

The Mason Jar is one of my favorite places to eat in Ft. Lauderdale. I've been there several times since they opened and have never had a bad meal. I particularly like the chicken pot pie. The crust is flakie and buttery and the filling has plenty of chicken. I highly recommend it. I'm not crazy about the meat loaf. It wasn't terrible; just not what I'm accustomed to. I wish the salads were a tad bit larger only because the Cesar salad was so good, it left me wanting more. The service is always good.

While vacationing in FL, we needed somewhere to get some dinner. Am I excited that we found The Mason Jar. It was so good my cousin declared, "Best meal in FL thus far!!" She had the pistachio crusted salmon and I had the spinach ravioli. I also started with the goat cheese phyllo, which melted in your mouth. The waitstaff were super friendly and attentive. If you happen to find yourself in the Fort Lauderdale area, go to the Mason Jar. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Great. The food, the service, and the owners... They are all great. Very unique dishes but something like your mother or grandmother would have made if it was one of your favorite dishes. We keep trying new things every time we go back, and every one of them is awesome. Try the veggies and deserts too. Awesome. I think we went on a Tues or Wed night and the wines were 50% off too.. For the prices, you could never get a better meal, and I'm sure it's made with love :-)

Good home cooking. Huge portions. The food was alright but pretty heavy in butters or sauces. You have to really be in the mood. BUT I highly recommend the pigs in a blanket, meatloaf and French onion soup. Just not the place to go if you are the mood for a light meal.

We were so sorry when Las Olas Cafe lost it's lease but so happy when we found out that they re-opened in Oakland Park. I hope they have much better luck than the previous tenants. I haven't seen a lot of restaurants survive here. We started with three appetizers. Fried pickles. Fried green tomatoes and french fries with truffle oil and parmesan cheese. The fries were the hands down winner. They slice them on premises so they are super thin and crispy.And everything is better with truffle oil! We had to order more because they were such a big hit! And the soup was amazing. I had the crab and corn chowder but almost wanted to trade for the tomato gorgonzola bacon soup. Wow. That was soup good soup! For dinner I had the country fried steak, my husband ordered the short ribs and our friends had the pot pie and meatloaf. fo course, I had to taste them all. The short ribs were delicious and I enjoyed the chicken fried steak (althought my father in law would argue that IHOP has the winnging recipe on this diet buster dish). We all tried different side dishes as well. I had high hopes for the macaroni and cheese but the kitchen needs to rework this dish to reach the creamy cheese nirvana I seek. If you like brussel sprouts (to me they taste like battery acid), my dining partners say they were quite good. The spoon corn bread, green bean casserole and cheesy mash potatoes were all solid. They have very reasonably priced bottles of wine. The service is very sweet and attentive. Everyone is willing to give you a helping hand when selecting your entree. It's the same kind of feeling you got at Las Olas Cafe. Welcomed. There is hardly any parking in front of the building so park in the plaza lot next store just to the north. Don't go expecting a fancy high end meal. Do go expecting some down home, straightforward no frills country home cooking.

Wanted to order something different for lunch so i placed a takeout order from here after spending about 30 mins looking on yelp as to whaat to eat.boy did i choose the right place. Called them and placed an order for their fried chicken sandwich with a side of homemade french fries, and mac n cheese. got there the front entrance parking was full, drove around back, plenty of parking. nice place very traditional home ambiance. Pretty packed when i got there and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Staff was very friendly and polite, got my order in minutes and went home to enjoy. First off the french fries were delicious. they are more like shoestring cut fries but still very well prepared. The mac and cheese was also very delicious, not too cheesy and creamy yet not overly baked. when i ordered the fried chicken sandwich i was envisioning a typical round sandwich, i was wrong. it was a big portion of wonderfully cooked fried chicken on a nice sized hoagie roll which had arugula pesto spread on it. wow this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while. The chicken was moist, tender and flavorful and the zestyness of the pesto added a perfect kick to the sandwich. Its safe to say im a satisfied customer and i will be coming back soon. Next time ill try the mason jar burger which was my original choice.

We ate here last Thursday evening. Parking is a little tough as there are only 4 spots out front and you have to go through the adjacent parking lot to the lot at the rear. Atmosphere is casual rather like a large house. The food is comfort food with a shouthern influence. We started with the truffle fries with parmesan cheese shavings, thin and crisp and very good not greasy at all. I had an order of the onion soup which was excellent, good beef base lot's of onion flavor and covered and I do mean covered with cheese well baked on top. The three diners ordered Meatloaf, Chicken Pot Pie and Crispy Duck. All were very well prepared and very good. The pot pie was literally enough food for two, we brought half home and it was lunch for two the next day, chock full of chicken and veggies with a very nice sauce. Meatloaf was tender and moist, also a very generous portion a small amount came home with us and the duck was cooked to perfection crispy on the outside while being tender and moist on the inside with a honey glaze sauce. Each entree comes with two sides or a salad, the salad was fresh and crisp if not unspectacular. The sides that we ordered were cheesy mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with pistachios and the green bean casserole all were very good. For desert we had an warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and coffee both very good. Overall this was a very good meal, it is mostly an older crowd (not trendy at all), the service was excellent and extremely attentive. Interestingly enough all the servers were female and a little bit more mature than one usually finds in most local restaurants. If you are more into flair and glitz, prefer a trendy atmosphere with lot's of people watching and are interested in unique food pairings then this probably isn't your kind of place. But if you are looking for a good hearty meal with generous portions, a some what homey atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices this is a winner. It's the kind of food I wish my mom had made. 4.5 Stars

Have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. Overall I was pleased with my dinner experience. The restaurant is decorated in a very country style. Not hip or chic in any way. Parking is a bit confusing but just know you can park all the way behind the restaurant--its a little bit of an adventure. We were greeted and waited on by the owner of the restaurant who was very friendly and welcoming. For appetizers, we had the pigs in a blanket and goat cheese in phyllo dough with a raspberry jam. Both were good. I really liked the pigs in a blanket though. They were not doughy and the cocktail wiener was flavorful and juicy. For my entree I had the short ribs with mac and cheese and sweet potato mash. The portion size was huge. Four massive short ribs were very tasty, and tender but entirely too much food. The sweet potato mash was the standout as far as sides went. My girlfriend had the fried chicken which was also massive but very good. I liked the unsweetened iced tea I had, and for some strange reason I just enjoy drinking out of the mason jar glasses they use. This was a good spot for comfort food. However, this may seem like an odd complaint, but the portions are entirely too big, which left me feeling guilty for two reasons: 1) I overate and made my stomach hurt; and 2) I had to waste an entire short rib and half a chicken dish since leftovers were not to be taken home by us (our choice). The food is so rich, a smaller size would be sufficient. Next time I go, I will likely share an entree.

The very best "Upscale Comfort Food" in Fort Lauderdale. On a Saturday evening, the W and I and our friends in Broward County dropped in for dinner. We started with the Pigs in a Blanket (love these!) and Phyllo Triangles (goat cheese, cranberries & mushrooms). We brought out own bottle of Pinot and the very friendly staff uncorked in minutes after we sat down. There were so many dishes on the menu that I liked, I had a difficult time time making a decision. One of my buddies and I ended up sharing the Chicken Fried Steak and Beef Schnitzel. You get to choose 2 sides and I went for the Mac & Cheese and Fries. My buddy had the Cheesy Mashed Potatoes. The Chicken Fried Steak was thick, but with the gravy was incredible. The Beef Schnitzel was good, but not as great as the Chicken Fried Steak. My buddy's GF ordered the Walnut Crusted Mahi Mahi (one of their signature dishes, a great pick!). The W had the Shrimp Fra Diablo including a side of Crusted Corn Bread (real kernels of corn, very buttery). There was not much room for dessert, but how could we leave without sampling the Frozen Lemonade Pie and a Chocolate Cake with a Vanilla Ice Cream that was out of this world. Overall, a delicious meal from the owners of Las Olas Cafe that moved their restaurant after May 2010. I'll need to come back for lunch for Janice's Meat Loaf or the Chicken Pot Pie! The service was outstanding, friendly and homey. When taking our order, the waitress pulled up a chair to the table and chatted with us. The parking is in back and it was not very crowded for a Saturday evening. If you want to avoid the Las Olas crowds and tourists, this is the place!

Husband and I originally discovered this restaurant through Yelp, so Thanks! We found just what we were looking for: A local restaurant making good food from great ingredients. The Crab Chowder was creamy, but could have used a bit more crab, and crab taste, in the soup. Goat Cheese, Cranberry, mushroom phyllo triangles were creative and presented beautifully, but the cheese needed a bit more sweet to cut through what we refer to as "goaty-ness". We loved the sides, with choices like green bean casserole and brussel sprouts with pistachios that you just don't see on menus. Each entree came with a choice of two from a list of 8, and we were each able to get 2 we really liked. I ordered the skirt steak with adobo sauce, and it arrived perfectly cooked at medium rare. it was delicious! Husband ordered short ribs which were also braised perfectly, and the sauce was rich and delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant and we will return on our next trip!

Three of us went on a Saturday night. We did not have reservations. Had to wait 1/2 hour to be seated. It was my first time there. Place was packed. It was an enjoyable night. Being very busy, it was difficult to hear the conversation. Meal was good-meatloaf, sweet potatos and the brussle sprouts were delicious. Thought it pring was on the high side but it would not deter me not go again. I would try it again during the week at a slower time-maybe around 8 pm after the movie crowd goes across the street to see the show.

i came here with a large party on a saturday night and everyone's meal was fantastic. the inside was quaint and homey, like being at your grandmother's house. the staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions you had about the menu. i sampled around the table, so i can speak for everyone. since we knew the portions were huge, we didn't even bother to order apps. the meatloaf was awesome, the country fried chicken was delicious, the braised short ribs were excellent, and the chicken pot pie was great too. all the sides were fantastic, from the mac & cheese and corn spoonbread, to the glazed carrots and brussell sprouts with pistachios. we had to try some desserts too, and they were all amazing. we sampled their apple cobbler, strawberry & chocolate pie, and this frozen lemonade torte which was so refreshing. the chef here clearly takes pride in his offerings, and it shows in the dishes. this is great comfort food at a reasonable price. please come check this place out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

I just finished an awesome take out lunch from The Mason Jar. I had to try the tomato soup, with blue cheese and bacon! Yum! It's as good as it sounds, very savory and rich. I also tried the turkey sandwich with avocado. They make this sandwich with thick slices of fresh roasted turkey and melted brie. What a delicious sandwich and it comes with a side. All of the sides sounded good but I chose the mac and cheese and it was really really yummy. I can't wait to try the brussel sprouts with pistachios. I was also happy to see that they brought some favorites off the menu from Las Olas cafe. I always loved the walnut crusted mahi. Can't wait to go back for dinner. The service was excellent. My server was so sweet and helpful.

Had lunch here last week. Their lunch selection is great. I had the special when I was there. A Briskett sandwich which was DEEElicious. I got the side of sweet potato mash which was yummy as well. There were six of us and everyone enjoyed what they had. Service was very good and our teas were never more than half empty. Good food and service, but don't trust them with your debit or credit card. For my second visit to Mason Jar, I took my mom for dinner. The restaurant charged my debit card three times for the same meal. Assuming an honest mistake had been made. I called and was told by staff that the owner will be calling me the following day to discuss. After not hearing back from the owner I was told by staff that "the owners are just too slammed with the lunch rush to talk to me now". So I filed a dispute with my credit union and plan to let everyone know that customer service and "doing the right thing" take a back seat to making money during the lunch rush.

Within its class, which is relatively simple cuisine (sort of like an American bistro), this is very good indeed. Chicken pot pie is outstanding, with large clean pieces of white meat, diced carrots, peas, all in a thick and flavorful cream base, as it's called for. I took a chance on the duck, which can be tricky, usually either too dry or too fatty, and it was perfect here. The shoestring potatoes are crispy, hot, and light, the meatloaf (huge portion) moist and meaty, and the sides otherwise modest but well prepared. Service was friendly, efficient, and informal, as befits the style of the restaurant. Prices are low, dinner mains running $15-22. The wine list is modest and well priced. Parking is awkward, the approach being from the street behind the restaurant, but not a big deal.

The Mason Jar cafe succeeds in being a homey place with homey decor surroundings and service--Jerry, our server, and (we didn't get his name) the gentleman who aided him were excellent, once again disproving all these people who complain about service in restaurants--where are they eating? The food was 'comfy' too in the sense that it would be what mom would make and serve in your kitchen--good but not memorable. We went there for lunch with Allen having the meatloaf sandwich and a side of corn spoon bread ($10) with a can of coke ($2.25) while I had the Mason Jar Burger (cheddar cheese and bacon) with a side of macaroni & cheese ($9) and coffee ($2.25). For dessert we shared a 'sampler' ($10) which had frozen lemonade pie, fudge sundae cake and strawberry pie--the first was outstanding. The Mason Jar was a pleasant, comfy experience and the second, and much better, country cooking experience.

I previously gave 3 stars. The food is just too good for 3 stars. It could even be 5 if it wasn't for the horrendous wait! Came back 2 more times, everything tastes great! The sides are fantastic, but they only have 1 waiter for the whole restaurant! What's up with that. One other person takes care of drink orders, but we never get the food in under 30 minutes. Add another 10 minutes just to pay. Nightmare. However, with that said, the food actually is worth the wait and I will continue to suck up the wait and come to the restaurant.

We ate there for dinner and were not impressed. The menu is way overpriced ($15 for chicken potpie) and the service is mediocre. They had one waiter. The fried green tomatoes were the worst I have ever had; the breading on top was at best a generic from of Shake-N-Bake and the tomatoes were bitter and very hard. The burger was a 3 out of 10-nothing to write home about, and the French onion soup was just OK. This place has the same owners and chef as the former Las Olas Cafe, so if you liked that place then perhaps you might like it. Definitely not cafe prices. Parking is work in itself as their are only 4-5 spots up front. The rest are in the very back through a tiny alley way or go in through of Bayview Drive in the back (best option). Will not go back.

Excellent food, it is obvious that they take pride in every item on the menu. Waitress was new and obviously frazzled by the amount of questions we asked and special instructions we gave. Well this was our second trip to the Mason Jar Cafe and i have to say it was an interesting experience, but one i feel compelled to share. We arrived at the cafe to a half empty restaurant and was greeting by a nice manager who seated us pretty promptly. our other party arrived and were greeted fairly quickly from our waiter with the specials. We are all vegetarian and liked the fact that they had alot of sides and salads to choose from, HOWEVER things took a down turn when our waiter was telling us that everything including the mac and cheese was made with a chicken stock and they could not accomodate us at all despite the food was made to order... (we ordered sides and salads) THey brought the soup to our friend in about ten minutes, then more more food for over a half an hour, no explanation or apologies as we watched our friend eat his delicious looking seafood soup! Our friend was asking what does not have chicken stock and he rudely replied " oh everything does"!!! he kept coming over and making wisecracks about oh the desserts dont have chicken stock in them... So uncalled for an unnecessary...He never came over to ask if we needed anything else or telling us that he was sorry about the wait again to a HALF EMPTY RESTAURANT and seemed very overwhelmed despite two other people working there bringing out the food. ALso his attitude was less than acceptable as he was very short with his answers, no eye contact and barety said thank you even after we left him a 25% tip! Sorry guys, you need to work on your customer service and have a talk with that waiter.. The food is good but we wont be making a trip back... Always treat your customers as they are the most important people in the world because in this economy there is no excuse for rudeness... One of our guests which is a professor from Johnson and Wales university in hospitality was very disappointed...

I drove past this place a few times and thought I would give it a try. Parking is very limited out front but there is a large lot around back so we parked there. I was a bit turned off when the cooks were standing outside the kitchen door smoking. The back door entrance is right by the bathrooms and nobody really knew that we were there. The look of the place was kind of old and cheap. Think dusty fake trees wrapped in christmas lights and your grandmothers plates hanging on the walls. They sat us in the back near the other bathroom. I thought the menu looked pretty good but it took a long while for someone to greet us and take a drink order. They seemed annoyed when I asked some questions about the menu. I had the pigs in a blanket app. I swear that they were the frozen ones you can buy at publix. AND they were burnt to boot! How can you screw up a hot dog? Everything seemed to take a long time, but there were only like 4 tables occupied in the place. The skirt steak was average at best and cooked more than the medium rare that I ordered. My mother taught me to always say nice things, but for this place....I struggle. Poor location, lousy food, and arrogant service. I'm sure there will be a new sign hanging in the window soon. Don't waste your time or money.

I eat here once in a while and I do enjoy the food even tho they could use a little less butter. I normally get take out. And I am usually pleased with the service I receive. However last time I ordered food the waitress (can't remember her name) was kinda short and a little rude. She was telling me how I should get my pork chop cooked which was annoying because I like it and need it to be cooked well done. She said I shouldn't get well done so I asked if they can butterfly it for me and she told me NO which is BS because it was a double chop and could easily been butterflied. When I got home it wasn't cooked enough for me and a wasted most of the chop. Also while I was there. There was a table that got the wrong side dishes and she took it back from the table and brought out the correct sides. My whole thought when I see something like that is....are they going to put that side on someone else's plate?!? Due to that I won't be dining there again

Tip: Don't show up with a large party (6 or more) without a reservation. The beginning of our experience at this place was being greeted by a hostess (older lady with pixie haircut) who seemed to get mad at the fact that this group of first-time visitors showed up for lunch without a reservation. She wasn't discreet or nice about it. After making clear how much of an inconvenience this was, we were finally seated. We waited about 20 minutes for our server to take our order. This is not an exaggeration. The two ladies who stood behind us in line were almost done with their meal (not appetizers) by the time we got our food. The food was ok. I had a burger. It would have probably tasted better if i didn't have such a bitter taste in my mouth. If you're wondering why I didn't just leave, we were celebrating a co-worker's birthday. I didn't want to completely ruin the experience for everyone else, though we were all equally upset by the way we were treated.

Had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever at the Mason Jar Cafe. Packed full of several different types of excellent cheese and sandwiched between 2 slices of delicious fresh bread toasted to perfection. After a long days work (really a long morning) I stopped in for lunch. Grabbed a table - alone - and sat by the window. I am sure the older ladies at the table next to me must of thought "What a sad young man, sitting all alone, watching the cars go by and playing on his cell phone." Well I was about to get happy, real quick. I ordered an Ice Tea and it arrived in a jar! I immediately thought my wife would love this place. I instagramed a photo of it. BAM new likes! People love beverages in jars. I had the meatloaf sandwich. It came with super thin, extra crispy fries. Like none I have had before. The meatloaf was great, but the bread it was on was so soft, you could tell it was fresh. The meal was HUGE and I couldn't finish it. The servers were great. They checked in on me, brought refills of the tea, and were just very welcoming. Oh and the bathrooms are impeccably clean. They even had a little tile that had broken and there was a sign that said "Sorry, we will fix this soon."

Overall, the food was OK. The fried pickles were great, as was the Mason Jar salad. Being from the southeast US, I have had fried green tomatoes that I have enjoyed more than these but they were ok, the breading was nice and crispy. Was not impressed with the side dishes. I did order the brussel sprouts but they were never brought to me, I ended up deciding that I was too full anyways. Too bad because I'm hearing they are good. The atmosphere is pleasant, but we found the service to be somewhat lacking, as the server forgot to either write down or bring 2 separate parts of our meal and she seems to be a little out of sorts when we visited. My friends enjoyed the chicken pot pie.

The food was super. I had the chicken pot pie. The top was so round and browned to perfection big chucks of chicken in a light but creamy sauce potatoes and carrots . It came w/ two sides I ordered the Brussels sprouts that were roasted and seasons so very well plus a corn bread so so good and you can see the corn too. I first had the onion soup yummers , my husband ordered the lobster bisque thick but not to thick . The only reason it's not a five star is the inside is like the previous reviewer wrote kinda like a large empty house . Server Joanne was very nice too. Wish I could add a picture . We will go back.

New yelp find for me. Its our 5 year today and we wanted something different and new. We started with French onion soup, crispy shoestring fries w/real parmesan shavings, and pistachio Brussels sprouts. All were good, and we would order again. She got an enormous serving of chicken pot pie made w/ Phillo doe. The pot pie topping is out if the world and there are lots and lots of huge chunks of white meat chicken. It was very good, but it did need salt and typically she doesn't add anything to her food. She got glazed carrots and cornbread stuffed w/ corn for her sides and her words were, "both were oh so yummy deliciousness". I got the New Zealand rack of lamb which was cooked to order and not at all gamey. Ordered creme brule which was good, but it was coconut based and I would have preffered it original. She ordered the carrot cake which one of the servers makes on site. it was light, and fluffy, and the best she claimed to have ever had. All was very good. Very pleased. A must on your to do list. We will be back!

I can see why my Dad really likes this place. It has that warm homey feeling that so many of the Fort Lauderdale and Boca restaurants lack with all of their chrome and shiny things. Instead, this feels like you've been invited to dine in someone's house. Starting with the parking lot that's a bit tight. :) Inside, a handful of tables and chairs spaced nicely so that you can enjoy your own meal and talk without having to listen to the folks at the next table over. Great service from what I understand are regulars who have been running this place for a long while. Good southern cooking, kicked up a notch. I insisted that we start with the fried pickles, because my Dad and his girlfriend had never had such a thing. Rather than rounded slices, these were long and thin slivers in a tasty batter and hot as all get out from the fryer. And a nice small pot of a tangy dip that went perfectly. For mains, I had the pork chop with mac & cheese and the brussels sprouts. The chop was a good three inches thick and topped with a cherry sauce. Perfectly cooked, more than half of this monster went home because I had to eat all of the two sides. I've never had pistachios with my sprouts and further, I've never had them "leaved" like this. They're usually whole. What a great idea! My dad had the meatloaf and his girlfriend had the skirt steak. And again, more than half of each of these went home too. So much food! For dessert, we split a piece of the apple crumble with a scoop of lovely french vanilla ice cream. Excellent meal and I can't wait to come back.

The three stars are solely for the delicious food. However, the service was not at all up to par. A hostess made it clear to us that she was annoyed we had so many people (8) in our lunch party. We watched other tables that came in after us order and enjoy their food way before our order was taken. It seemed like we were being punished for having the gall to show up with eight people. And they don't give separate checks or accept American Express.

After hearing about this place from a friend my wife and I decided to check it out since it was nearby. I hate it more than anything when we pick a bad place but this was not anything close to bad! I love Mason Jar!!! I really enjoyed the down home country relaxed atmosphere, it a very relaxing place! We started off with some fried pickles which were perfect! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because when I first ordered I chose the chicken pot pie (due to the fact that I saw it on all the tables) and I was soooo excited to get it!! 5 minutes later the waitress came back with the terrible news of no more pot pie . So I chose the fried chicken with carrots and mashed potatoes and WOW it was amazing, esp the gravy!! My wife got the meatloaf and it was super moist and everything you love about meatloaf. If you like great home cooked meals then this is the place for you!

Upping my review to four stars, even though I wrote my original review just under a month ago. Why, you ask? Two reasons: 1. Came here for lunch today, and I took my own advice this time and ordered the French Onion soup (and a small salad), and the Frozen Lemonade dessert. I left here oh-so happy. This shall henceforth be my order. 2. As my mom and I were getting ready to leave, I realized that, much to my horror, I had locked the keys inside my mom's car. You see, when we got here, it was POURING down rain. So I got my umbrella and ran to my mom's side of the car to make sure she didn't get soaked. I was in such a hurry to grab her portable oxygen machine and keep her dry that I didn't realize the keys were on the seat. Of course, we discovered that the keys were locked in the car just before the restaurant was due to close after lunch. The weather was horrid, and we resigned ourselves to the fact that we'd have to sit outside in the monsoon. Well, our waitress Paula (who, it turns out, is the owner) saw that my mom was on oxygen and insisted that we stay inside, even though this meant she couldn't leave. So I called roadside assistance and we waited inside for them to get there. They arrived about 40 minutes after the restaurant closed, and had we waited outside, we would've gotten completely drenched (and probably would've gotten sick as a result). Paula was so sweet to let us stay, and we knew darn well she didn't have to. That kind of service goes a very long way in my book.

My family and I had dinner at the Mason Jar last week and the food was absolutely amazing! We're quite old fashioned therefore sharing was a must. The beef short ribs are to die for, chicken pot pie and meatloaf we're nothing short of authentic down home country cuisine and the seafood stew was nothing like I have ever tasted. Each entree came with two sides of our choosing and they were equally tasty. The Brussels sprouts... delicious!!! Spoon corn bread was a cross between corn bread and bread pudding exquisite. The service was great and everyone treated us well. For dessert we had carrot cake and the creme burlee...the carrot cake was the best I've ever had

Home style cooking at its finest. Started with some rich and delicious lobster bisque that was incredible. I found this place through yelp so we decided to go there tonight for dinner. I had the Country Fried Chicken with the Brussel sprouts and Sweet Potato Mash as my sides. My husband had the Ribs with Cheesy Mashed Potatoes and Mac N Cheese as his sides. We both enjoyed our meals and although the sides are a bit small they make up for that with the portion of meat that you receive. It was a nice atmosphere and the wait staff was friendly. If you want some good "home cooking", you can get it at The Mason Jar. Its not the prettiest place, but the food is fresh and well made. I had the beef short ribs and they were outstanding. Very flavorful and so tender that they fell off the bone and no need for a knife. Sides were good: mac and cheese and green bean casserole. Friends had the skirt steak and liked it very much, along with the wedge salad, lobster bisque and ravioli. Chocolate bomba for dessert was a good way to end. We had no problem getting a table on Friday night at 8, but it was as busy as I had ever seen it. Overall, just a good place for good food that I am glad is close by.

Reservations for a group of 4 and seated promptly at 6 30. Curtis, our server, was pleasant and efficient from start to finish. Impressed with the menu because there is truely something for everyone. Decent wine by the glass or bottle. Skipped apps because read how large the portions are. Glad we did. I had the crispy duck , cheesy mashed potatoes and the famous brussels sproats. Fantastic. Other diners had grilled pork tenderloin with pineapple jalapeno sauce, crab cakes and salmon with a citrus sauce. All amazed at quality of the entrees.We split aslice of flourless chocolate cake for desert. It was warm and topped with vanilla ice cream.Yum! Don't let the name and somewhat casual setting fool you. This is not a Cracker Barrel. This is serious food served in a casual setting.

My friend from NC brought me here as it's one of her go-to neighborhood lunch joints. We both got the Turkey Avocado on wheat. SO GOOD! Like, I could eat it every day kind and never get bored GOOD! They roast turkeys every few days and that, my friends is what's between the perfectly toasted slices of bread. Got the side of pistachio brussel sprouts which were so great, it would make any non veggie eater a believer! Ice tea came in, of course a cute mason jar. Location is convenient so easy to pop in while shopping. The owner is sweet as she can be, food came quick, and we both left with a warm fuzzies in our tummies.

This is another restaurant where we bookmarked for a long time, but never actually visit it. So, what better time to visit on a rainy Saturday afternoon. My wife and I are "Early Birds". Not that we are trying to go for the early birdd dinner specials, but we are used to have dinning early. Since this place opens for dinner at 5:30pm, we were already hungry before we got there. My first thought as I walked through the front door is: felt like country. The decor of the restaurant might feel outdated, but I guess its got it's own little charm. After all, most of the items on the menu seems like rustic, comfort food to me. With that in mind, we decided to order the Fried Green Tomatoes to start the evening off. we had read rave reviews about thee food in this place, so the expectation was very high. However, when the dish arrived, we were a little disappointed. The tomato itself was okay, but the breading on the outside was very hard with no flavors. I am not sure what the sauce was on top, but it didnt add anything to the dish. And I think they can do without those crab meats they throw on top. Fortunately, the entree we ordered turned out to be terrific. I ordered the Mahi Mahi. I got this generous portion of Mahi Mahi topped with some crusted walnuts with caramelized onions on top. The fish was cooked well and I really enjoyed my bite with the onions. Also, the mac and cheese I ordered as my sides was great. My wife had their Chicken Fried Steak and it was excellent. I love the thin and crispy breading on the outside, and the meat was nice and juicy inside. And, it had a lot of good flavors. Also, the fries she ordered as the sides was great. And the portion was huge, we only managed to eat half of it. Over all, it was a pleasant dinning experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Even the decor might be a bit outdated, but it is neat and clean. We might come back again.

We stopped here to eat before a concert at the culture room since we could grab parking early then walk to the restaurant. This place was pretty good. For starters we ordered the fried pickles and the pigs In a blanket. The fried pickles were good, not small chips, they were really big. The pigs were basic pigs in a blanket, nothing special in my opinion. For dinner I got the fried chicken with Mac n cheese and the corn bread. The fried chicken is sweet, almost like its breaded with corn flakes. It was all fresh and delicious. My hubby got the special of the day which was a NY strip, I didn't personally care for it, but he seemed to enjoy it. We also tried the Brussel sprouts with pistachios (holy butter). My boyfriend made reservations here for our one year anniversary. I was pleasantly surprised as I had never tried it before but heard great things. When we arrived for our dinner reservations there were a couple families and couples having dinner. Not very busy on a Tuesday night. We were greeted right away and taken to our table by a window. It took a little bit for our waiter to come to us to take our drink orders, but we were not in any hurry so we waited patiently. Once our waiter came over, we ordered beer and I asked for a recommendation on wine pairings for the meals I had in mind that I was considering for my entree. He gave me a wonderful recommendation on the Sauvignon Blanc to pair with Chicken. Plus side, they had half off wine bottles and by the glass on Tuesday! Unfortunately we did not order any appetizers though they sounded incredible, we ordered our entrees instead. Chicken Fried Chicken please! Our entrees came out about 15-20 minutes after ordering, sizzling hot. I can't tell you enough how much we loved the Chicken Fried Chicken entree with the Mac n cheese (heavy tasting with cream and butter and topped with crushed goldfish crackers) and green been casserole (cooked perfectly with mushrooms as well.) I made it my mission to finish the very generous portion. The gravy made with cream and nutmeg was absolutely delicious. I wanted to order it to-go! We finished our meals without any room for dessert, but we know we'll be back. Great place for family and friend gatherings, dates, and small special occasions. Staff is very friendly and attentive once they've greeted you. Prices are validated once you taste there food. You can tell they put a lot of love into their recipes. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!

Yes...5 stars... Felt like I was at someone's house. We ate there a few weeks ago and I am seriously craving the Brussel sprouts! Started with...a very long named soup...basically a kitchen sink of soups..slight curry flavor...Totally deliciously! Fried pickles....perfect! Love they are large pieces and not chips. Fried green tomatoes...not crazy about the breading, but enjoyed it. I had Edgar's famous seafood stew. It was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved. I ended up eating his filet from the porterhouse and it was Sooo good! I had fries and Brussel sprouts as my sides...OMG! those brussel sprouts were sooooo good (I have been trying to like Brussel sprouts in general and these made me love them). Husband has porterhouse special. It was very very good! Mac and cheese, yum! We had the sampler dessert. The frozen lemonade cake was sooo good...even though I was full I just kept eating! Typically canned soda drives me nuts...but they had Dr. Browns! Can't wait to go back!

I've never been disappointed. Everything I've ordered here tops other restaurants when it comes to southern comfort food. Fried chicken is moist and whatever secret combination they use for the batter is light and mouthwatering. Chicken pot pie with phyllo crust...oh my! The Brussel sprouts are do flavorful. And if you like fried pickles, you'll find the ultimate best you've ever had. Really thickly sliced and perfectly battered. Staff is always friendly and on a busy night, you will hear the other patrons discussing their multitude of favorites that they've tried which will leave you yearning to come back for more. Heard some good things so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out for dinner. Although the food didnt't blow us away..the service was great. To start, we had the lobster bisque which was pretty good. I'm a sucker for a bowl of bisque. -The Roasted Duckling - (crispy with a honey & thyme glaze.) The duck itself and the sauce was pretty good but it wasn't crispy. I was looking forward to that crispy skin and it was lacking. -Spinach & Pine Nut Ravioli - (With a pomodoro sauce & drizzled with basil cream.) It was ok. The flavors were a little bland, but we actually put some of the Roasted Duckling sauce on it and it completely transformed the dish. We were happier with it after that. -Corn spoon bread, sweet potato mash, brussel sprouts, and organic glazed carrots for sides. The sides were good, I think the carrots would've been better if glazed with the sauce used for the duck. (Couldn't get enough of the Roasted Duckling sauce....) the carrots just tasted steamed. The food and restaurant has a homey feel to it. Good food and great service.

Always a good choice! We have been here quite a few times for lunch and it's phenomenal. Tried it for dinner tonight and wasn't disappointed. We got the wedge salad (the blue cheese dressing is out of this world) but I wanted a lighter dressing so our server suggested an herb vinaigrette. Delish! Then we split the meatloaf dinner. The gravy they put on top I would drink through a straw. It's that good. The loaf itself was cooked to perfection! As for the staff, we always see the same familiar faces which is nice. They're always personable and on the ball!

I love this place and have been here a few times. The tomato soup is a must have (and I really don't like tomato soup). The brussell sprouts used to be so delicious, but this last visit something was awry. Maybe just a bad day, but I did not find the flavor I've had in my past experiences. I read somewhere they had new ownership and maybe this is the reason why, but I'll try them another time in the future and if they come out like they did on this visit, they'll be removed from the "must have" list I have in my mind. I like the food here quite a bit; I find the service/wait staff to be very good; and I like the ambiance. I would recommend you give it a try. I would have given it a 4 rating had the brussell sprouts not been a disaster (whereas they used to be to die for).

My Mason burger was ok - but just ok. Really nothing special. The hostess was rude and unwelcoming as soon as we arrived. And her temperament did not improve. She seemed truly out of sorts because we had more than six people in our party. Really we should have turned around right then and there and gone to a friendlier place but we were hungry and decided to overlook her rudeness. Once seated it took them a good 30 minutes (and that's being generous) to take our order and at least that long to bring the food out to us. Other patrons got seated after us, where done eating and paid their bill before our food arrived. With so many dining options, you would think a small restaurant would go out of their way to make the experience pleasant. If you like friendly service AND a delicious meal - this place isn't it.
While the place advertises "home cooking", it's not really. Meatloaf and country fried chicken are the extent of their home cooking. The limited menu is complimented by nightly specials. Their serving portions are generous. The phyllo triangle appetizer was unusual and very good. The carrot cake dessert was dry, nothing special, and even maybe a bit stale. Service was good but it seemed to take a long time to get the food from the kitchen. Recommend reservations if you don't go early. Interesting mix of clientele - families with kids, elderly, gay, and couples for date night. Ample parking in the rear.

Yes, the food is fantastic... yet, my favorite part about dining here is actually the service. The staff here is extremely attentive, helpful & darn right fun. Warning: You will leave here with a happily stuffed gut full of yummy comfort food and a sore face because the servers will have you laughing and smiling throughout your entire meal.

With the extensive menu at mason jar it may take a while to decide. Let me help, The meatloaf, fried chicken and pork chops are dialed. The brussel sprouts with pistacios are a must as is the spoon bread. I have never encountered anything but happy, friendly servers, and do ask for the specials, they sell out fast for a reason. Save room for dessert, or share, the crème brulee is fab, and the coffee is fresh brewed. Enjoy.

This place was amazing. It took a minute for them to notice our arrival, but once we were sat the service was excellent. The restaurant is really clean. It makes you feel like you are eating at a family member's house. The food is modern comfort. We tried pigs in a blanket, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, country fried chicken, and chicken pot pie. Everything was excellent! The only thing I didn't like was the canned sodas (but that is just a personal preference). Try this place if you are a local or a tourist looking to be low key.

The Mason Jar is one of my favorite places to eat in Ft. Lauderdale. I've been there several times since they opened and have never had a bad meal. I particularly like the chicken pot pie. The crust is flakie and buttery and the filling has plenty of chicken. I highly recommend it. I'm not crazy about the meat loaf. It wasn't terrible; just not what I'm accustomed to. I wish the salads were a tad bit larger only because the Cesar salad was so good, it left me wanting more. The service is always good.

While vacationing in FL, we needed somewhere to get some dinner. Am I excited that we found The Mason Jar. It was so good my cousin declared, "Best meal in FL thus far!!" She had the pistachio crusted salmon and I had the spinach ravioli. I also started with the goat cheese phyllo, which melted in your mouth. The waitstaff were super friendly and attentive. If you happen to find yourself in the Fort Lauderdale area, go to the Mason Jar. You won't be disappointed.

We were so sorry when Las Olas Cafe lost it's lease but so happy when we found out that they re-opened in Oakland Park. I hope they have much better luck than the previous tenants. I haven't seen a lot of restaurants survive here. We started with three appetizers. Fried pickles. Fried green tomatoes and french fries with truffle oil and parmesan cheese. The fries were the hands down winner. They slice them on premises so they are super thin and crispy.And everything is better with truffle oil! We had to order more because they were such a big hit! And the soup was amazing. I had the crab and corn chowder but almost wanted to trade for the tomato gorgonzola bacon soup. Wow. That was soup good soup! For dinner I had the country fried steak, my husband ordered the short ribs and our friends had the pot pie and meatloaf. fo course, I had to taste them all. The short ribs were delicious and I enjoyed the chicken fried steak (althought my father in law would argue that IHOP has the winnging recipe on this diet buster dish). We all tried different side dishes as well. I had high hopes for the macaroni and cheese but the kitchen needs to rework this dish to reach the creamy cheese nirvana I seek. If you like brussel sprouts (to me they taste like battery acid), my dining partners say they were quite good. The spoon corn bread, green bean casserole and cheesy mash potatoes were all solid. They have very reasonably priced bottles of wine. The service is very sweet and attentive. Everyone is willing to give you a helping hand when selecting your entree. It's the same kind of feeling you got at Las Olas Cafe. Welcomed. There is hardly any parking in front of the building so park in the plaza lot next store just to the north. Don't go expecting a fancy high end meal. Do go expecting some down home, straightforward no frills country home cooking.

Wanted to order something different for lunch so i placed a takeout order from here after spending about 30 mins looking on yelp as to whaat to eat.boy did i choose the right place. Called them and placed an order for their fried chicken sandwich with a side of homemade french fries, and mac n cheese. got there the front entrance parking was full, drove around back, plenty of parking. nice place very traditional home ambiance. Pretty packed when i got there and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Staff was very friendly and polite, got my order in minutes and went home to enjoy. First off the french fries were delicious. they are more like shoestring cut fries but still very well prepared. The mac and cheese was also very delicious, not too cheesy and creamy yet not overly baked. when i ordered the fried chicken sandwich i was envisioning a typical round sandwich, i was wrong. it was a big portion of wonderfully cooked fried chicken on a nice sized hoagie roll which had arugula pesto spread on it. wow this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while. The chicken was moist, tender and flavorful and the zestyness of the pesto added a perfect kick to the sandwich. Its safe to say im a satisfied customer and i will be coming back soon. Next time ill try the mason jar burger which was my original choice.

We ate here last Thursday evening. Parking is a little tough as there are only 4 spots out front and you have to go through the adjacent parking lot to the lot at the rear. Atmosphere is casual rather like a large house. The food is comfort food with a shouthern influence. We started with the truffle fries with parmesan cheese shavings, thin and crisp and very good not greasy at all. I had an order of the onion soup which was excellent, good beef base lot's of onion flavor and covered and I do mean covered with cheese well baked on top. The three diners ordered Meatloaf, Chicken Pot Pie and Crispy Duck. All were very well prepared and very good. The pot pie was literally enough food for two, we brought half home and it was lunch for two the next day, chock full of chicken and veggies with a very nice sauce. Meatloaf was tender and moist, also a very generous portion a small amount came home with us and the duck was cooked to perfection crispy on the outside while being tender and moist on the inside with a honey glaze sauce. Each entree comes with two sides or a salad, the salad was fresh and crisp if not unspectacular. The sides that we ordered were cheesy mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with pistachios and the green bean casserole all were very good. For desert we had an warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and coffee both very good. Overall this was a very good meal, it is mostly an older crowd (not trendy at all), the service was excellent and extremely attentive. Interestingly enough all the servers were female and a little bit more mature than one usually finds in most local restaurants. If you are more into flair and glitz, prefer a trendy atmosphere with lot's of people watching and are interested in unique food pairings then this probably isn't your kind of place. But if you are looking for a good hearty meal with generous portions, a some what homey atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices this is a winner. Have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. Overall I was pleased with my dinner experience. The restaurant is decorated in a very country style. Not hip or chic in any way. Parking is a bit confusing but just know you can park all the way behind the restaurant--its a little bit of an adventure. We were greeted and waited on by the owner of the restaurant who was very friendly and welcoming. For appetizers, we had the pigs in a blanket and goat cheese in phyllo dough with a raspberry jam. Both were good. I really liked the pigs in a blanket though. They were not doughy and the cocktail wiener was flavorful and juicy. For my entree I had the short ribs with mac and cheese and sweet potato mash. The portion size was huge. Four massive short ribs were very tasty, and tender but entirely too much food. The sweet potato mash was the standout as far as sides went. My girlfriend had the fried chicken which was also massive but very good. I liked the unsweetened iced tea I had, and for some strange reason I just enjoy drinking out of the mason jar glasses they use. This was a good spot for comfort food. However, this may seem like an odd complaint, but the portions are entirely too big, which left me feeling guilty for two reasons: 1) I overate and made my stomach hurt; and 2) I had to waste an entire short rib and half a chicken dish since leftovers were not to be taken home by us (our choice). The food is so rich, a smaller size would be sufficient. Next time I go, I will likely share an entree.

The very best "Upscale Comfort Food" in Fort Lauderdale. On a Saturday evening, the W and I and our friends in Broward County dropped in for dinner. We started with the Pigs in a Blanket (love these!) and Phyllo Triangles (goat cheese, cranberries & mushrooms). We brought out own bottle of Pinot and the very friendly staff uncorked in minutes after we sat down. There were so many dishes on the menu that I liked, I had a difficult time time making a decision. One of my buddies and I ended up sharing the Chicken Fried Steak and Beef Schnitzel. You get to choose 2 sides and I went for the Mac & Cheese and Fries. My buddy had the Cheesy Mashed Potatoes. The Chicken Fried Steak was thick, but with the gravy was incredible. The Beef Schnitzel was good, but not as great as the Chicken Fried Steak. My buddy's GF ordered the Walnut Crusted Mahi Mahi (one of their signature dishes, a great pick!). The W had the Shrimp Fra Diablo including a side of Crusted Corn Bread (real kernels of corn, very buttery). There was not much room for dessert, but how could we leave without sampling the Frozen Lemonade Pie and a Chocolate Cake with a Vanilla Ice Cream that was out of this world. Overall, a delicious meal from the owners of Las Olas Cafe that moved their restaurant after May 2010. I'll need to come back for lunch for Janice's Meat Loaf or the Chicken Pot Pie! The service was outstanding, friendly and homey. When taking our order, the waitress pulled up a chair to the table and chatted with us. The parking is in back and it was not very crowded for a Saturday evening. If you want to avoid the Las Olas crowds and tourists, this is the place!

Husband and I originally discovered this restaurant through Yelp, so Thanks! We found just what we were looking for: A local restaurant making good food from great ingredients. The Crab Chowder was creamy, but could have used a bit more crab, and crab taste, in the soup. Goat Cheese, Cranberry, mushroom phyllo triangles were creative and presented beautifully, but the cheese needed a bit more sweet to cut through what we refer to as "goaty-ness". We loved the sides, with choices like green bean casserole and brussel sprouts with pistachios that you just don't see on menus. Each entree came with a choice of two from a list of 8, and we were each able to get 2 we really liked. I ordered the skirt steak with adobo sauce, and it arrived perfectly cooked at medium rare. it was delicious! Husband ordered short ribs which were also braised perfectly, and the sauce was rich and delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant and we will return on our next trip!

Being very busy, it was difficult to hear the conversation. Meal was good-meatloaf, sweet potatos and the brussle sprouts were delicious. Thought it pring was on the high side but it would not deter me not go again. i came here with a large party on a saturday night and everyone's meal was fantastic. the inside was quaint and homey, like being at your grandmother's house. the staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions you had about the menu. i sampled around the table, so i can speak for everyone. since we knew the portions were huge, we didn't even bother to order apps. the meatloaf was awesome, the country fried chicken was delicious, the braised short ribs were excellent, and the chicken pot pie was great too. all the sides were fantastic, from the mac & cheese and corn spoonbread, to the glazed carrots and brussell sprouts with pistachios. we had to try some desserts too, and they were all amazing. we sampled their apple cobbler, strawberry & chocolate pie, and this frozen lemonade torte which was so refreshing. the chef here clearly takes pride in his offerings, and it shows in the dishes. this is great comfort food at a reasonable price. please come check this place out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Good food and service, but don't trust them with your debit or credit card. For my second visit to Mason Jar, I took my mom for dinner. The restaurant charged my debit card three times for the same meal. Assuming an honest mistake had been made. I called and was told by staff that the owner will be calling me the following day to discuss. After not hearing back from the owner I was told by staff that "the owners are just too slammed with the lunch rush to talk to me now". So I filed a dispute with my credit union and plan to let everyone know that customer service and "doing the right thing" take a back seat to making money during the lunch rush.

Within its class, which is relatively simple cuisine (sort of like an American bistro), this is very good indeed. Chicken pot pie is outstanding, with large clean pieces of white meat, diced carrots, peas, all in a thick and flavorful cream base, as it's called for. I took a chance on the duck, which can be tricky, usually either too dry or too fatty, and it was perfect here. The shoestring potatoes are crispy, hot, and light, the meatloaf (huge portion) moist and meaty, and the sides otherwise modest but well prepared. Service was friendly, efficient, and informal, as befits the style of the restaurant. Prices are low, dinner mains running $15-22. The wine list is modest and well priced. Parking is awkward, the approach being from the street behind the restaurant, but not a big deal.

The Mason Jar cafe succeeds in being a homey place with homey decor surroundings and service--Jerry, our server, and (we didn't get his name) the gentleman who aided him were excellent, once again disproving all these people who complain about service in restaurants--where are they eating? The food was 'comfy' too in the sense that it would be what mom would make and serve in your kitchen--good but not memorable. We went there for lunch with Allen having the meatloaf sandwich and a side of corn spoon bread ($10) with a can of coke ($2.25) while I had the Mason Jar Burger (cheddar cheese and bacon) with a side of macaroni & cheese ($9) and coffee ($2.25). For dessert we shared a 'sampler' ($10) which had frozen lemonade pie, fudge sundae cake and strawberry pie--the first was outstanding. The Mason Jar was a pleasant, comfy experience and the second, and much better, country cooking experience.

I usually visit Fort Lauderdale every few months for maintenance of my bike. I was walking around looking for lunch having quality food. I found it, indeed! The passion they took in just the tea was apparent. They sweeten ever so gently and present it in a clear handled-jar. You can tell it was homemade. My first course was their daily soup, turkey and corn. The soup was chunky , flavorful, and presented on a white, classic cup having character. The soup had wonderful colors and vibrant flavors while the turkey was tender and the corn sweet. Other vegetables were found adding to the depth of the soup. My main course consisted of the shirt rib sandwich. The first bite told my brain I could only finish half the sandwich due to its richness. The sandwich included caramelized onions and Serrano pepper mayo on a kaiser roll. Every bite was delicious and rich. a table next to me ordered one to share! My choice of side included brussel sprouts leaves with pistachios. The sweetness from steaming the sprouts ten sautéing it in butter I presume worked very well in making every leaf earthy, sweet and nutty. I paced myself and eventually finished my meal. Service was exceptional as my main server and his teammate ensured I enjoyed the food, my drink was tipped off, and I was comfortable. I'd definitely be back and wouldn't mind exploring dinner.

I previously gave 3 stars. The food is just too good for 3 stars. It could even be 5 if it wasn't for the horrendous wait! Came back 2 more times, everything tastes great! The sides are fantastic, but they only have 1 waiter for the whole restaurant! What's up with that. One other person takes care of drink orders, but we never get the food in under 30 minutes. Add another 10 minutes just to pay. Nightmare. However, with that said, the food actually is worth the wait and I will continue to suck up the wait and come to the restaurant.

The burger was a 3 out of 10-nothing to write home about, and the French onion soup was just OK. This place has the same owners and chef as the former Las Olas Cafe, so if you liked that place then perhaps you might like it. Definitely not cafe prices. Parking is work in itself as their are only 4-5 spots up front. The rest are in the very back through a tiny alley way or go in through of Bayview Drive in the back (best option). Will not go back.

Awful food. Meatloaf tasted like nothing but ketchup. It was mushy and gross. My wife's food was no better. People told us this place is great but I sure don't see it.

Four of us have eaten there as a group and then me and the wife have went on our own a couple times. I have yet to get something bad, service, food or anything all has been great. Same people who use to own Las Olas Cafe and same chef. All the food is great and really have not found a miss yet. I was told a lunch menu would be forth coming so be on the look out. Real Stand out for me the Chicken Friend Steak Sandwich and Short Ribs.

Excellent food, it is obvious that they take pride in every item on the menu. Waitress was new and obviously frazzled by the amount of questions we asked and special instructions we gave. Comfy atmosphere, not very formal. Split pea soup and Mac and cheese are great, meatloaf has a hint of barbecue sauce that gives it a tangy taste.

Well this was our second trip to the Mason Jar Cafe and i have to say it was an interesting experience, but one i feel compelled to share. We arrived at the cafe to a half empty restaurant and was greeting by a nice manager who seated us pretty promptly. our other party arrived and were greeted fairly quickly from our waiter with the specials. We are all vegetarian and liked the fact that they had alot of sides and salads to choose from, HOWEVER things took a down turn when our waiter was telling us that everything including the mac and cheese was made with a chicken stock and they could not accomodate us at all despite the food was made to order... (we ordered sides and salads) THey brought the soup to our friend in about ten minutes, then more more food for over a half an hour, no explanation or apologies as we watched our friend eat his delicious looking seafood soup! Our friend was asking what does not have chicken stock and he rudely replied " oh everything does"!!! he kept coming over and making wisecracks about oh the desserts dont have chicken stock in them... So uncalled for an unnecessary...He never came over to ask if we needed anything else or telling us that he was sorry about the wait again to a HALF EMPTY RESTAURANT and seemed very overwhelmed despite two other people working there bringing out the food. ALso his attitude was less than acceptable as he was very short with his answers, no eye contact and barety said thank you even after we left him a 25% tip! Sorry guys, you need to work on your customer service and have a talk with that waiter.. The food is good but we wont be making a trip back... Always treat your customers as they are the most important people in the world because in this economy there is no excuse for rudeness... One of our guests which is a professor from Johnson and Wales university in hospitality was very disappointed...

I drove past this place a few times and thought I would give it a try. Parking is very limited out front but there is a large lot around back so we parked there. I was a bit turned off when the cooks were standing outside the kitchen door smoking. The back door entrance is right by the bathrooms and nobody really knew that we were there. The look of the place was kind of old and cheap. Think dusty fake trees wrapped in christmas lights and your grandmothers plates hanging on the walls. They sat us in the back near the other bathroom. I thought the menu looked pretty good but it took a long while for someone to greet us and take a drink order. They seemed annoyed when I asked some questions about the menu. I had the pigs in a blanket app. I swear that they were the frozen ones you can buy at publix. AND they were burnt to boot! How can you screw up a hot dog? Everything seemed to take a long time, but there were only like 4 tables occupied in the place. The skirt steak was average at best and cooked more than the medium rare that I ordered. My mother taught me to always say nice things, but for this place....I struggle. Poor location, lousy food, and arrogant service. I'm sure there will be a new sign hanging in the window soon. Don't waste your time or money.

I eat here once in a while and I do enjoy the food even tho they could use a little less butter. I normally get take out. And I am usually pleased with the service I receive. However last time I ordered food the waitress (can't remember her name) was kinda short and a little rude. She was telling me how I should get my pork chop cooked which was annoying because I like it and need it to be cooked well done. She said I shouldn't get well done so I asked if they can butterfly it for me and she told me NO which is BS because it was a double chop and could easily been butterflied. When I got home it wasn't cooked enough for me and a wasted most of the chop. Also while I was there. There was a table that got the wrong side dishes and she took it back from the table and brought out the correct sides. My whole thought when I see something like that is....are they going to put that side on someone else's plate?!? Due to that I won't be dining there again

Tip: Don't show up with a large party (6 or more) without a reservation. The beginning of our experience at this place was being greeted by a hostess (older lady with pixie haircut) who seemed to get mad at the fact that this group of first-time visitors showed up for lunch without a reservation. She wasn't discreet or nice about it. After making clear how much of an inconvenience this was, we were finally seated. We waited about 20 minutes for our server to take our order. This is not an exaggeration. The two ladies who stood behind us in line were almost done with their meal (not appetizers) by the time we got our food. The food was ok. I had a burger. It would have probably tasted better if i didn't have such a bitter taste in my mouth. If you're wondering why I didn't just leave, we were celebrating a co-worker's birthday. I didn't want to completely ruin the experience for everyone else, though we were all equally upset by the way we were treated.

I I love this place! I've had the pork chop which is excellent. The chicken pot pie, also very good. The meatloaf, amazing. The corn bread is super moist and sweet you eat it with a spoon! This place is one of the only places I can get southern comfort food that's anything like the Georgia cooking I grew up with. I'm never disappointed when I eat here.

Had one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever at the Mason Jar Cafe. Packed full of several different types of excellent cheese and sandwiched between 2 slices of delicious fresh bread toasted to perfection. Served with a generous side of their awesome stringy french fries. My companion had the tuna sandwich which was also delicious. Definately recommend this place for authentic home cooked food that goes above and beyond the ordinary. Their lunch menu is particularly good value.

After a long days work (really a long morning) I stopped in for lunch. Grabbed a table - alone - and sat by the window. I am sure the older ladies at the table next to me must of thought "What a sad young man, sitting all alone, watching the cars go by and playing on his cell phone." Well I was about to get happy, real quick. I ordered an Ice Tea and it arrived in a jar! I immediately thought my wife would love this place. I instagramed a photo of it. BAM new likes! People love beverages in jars. I had the meatloaf sandwich. It came with super thin, extra crispy fries. Like none I have had before. The meatloaf was great, but the bread it was on was so soft, you could tell it was fresh. The meal was HUGE and I couldn't finish it. The servers were great. They checked in on me, brought refills of the tea, and were just very welcoming. Oh and the bathrooms are impeccably clean. They even had a little tile that had broken and there was a sign that said "Sorry, we will fix this soon."

Overall, the food was OK. The fried pickles were great, as was the Mason Jar salad. Being from the southeast US, I have had fried green tomatoes that I have enjoyed more than these but they were ok, the breading was nice and crispy. Was not impressed with the side dishes. I did order the brussel sprouts but they were never brought to me, I ended up deciding that I was too full anyways. Too bad because I'm hearing they are good. The atmosphere is pleasant, but we found the service to be somewhat lacking, as the server forgot to either write down or bring 2 separate parts of our meal and she seems to be a little out of sorts when we visited. My friends enjoyed the chicken pot pie.

The food was super. I had the chicken pot pie. The top was so round and browned to perfection big chucks of chicken in a light but creamy sauce potatoes and carrots . It came w/ two sides I ordered the Brussels sprouts that were roasted and seasons so very well plus a corn bread so so good and you can see the corn too. I first had the onion soup yummers , my husband ordered the lobster bisque thick but not to thick . The only reason it's not a five star is the inside is like the previous reviewer wrote kinda like a large empty house . Server Joanne was very nice too. Wish I could add a picture . We will go back.

New yelp find for me. Its our 5 year today and we wanted something different and new. We started with French onion soup, crispy shoestring fries w/real parmesan shavings, and pistachio Brussels sprouts. All were good, and we would order again. She got an enormous serving of chicken pot pie made w/ Phillo doe. The pot pie topping is out if the world and there are lots and lots of huge chunks of white meat chicken. It was very good, but it did need salt and typically she doesn't add anything to her food. She got glazed carrots and cornbread stuffed w/ corn for her sides and her words were, "both were oh so yummy deliciousness". I got the New Zealand rack of lamb which was cooked to order and not at all gamey. Ordered creme brule which was good, but it was coconut based and I would have preffered it original. She ordered the carrot cake which one of the servers makes on site. it was light, and fluffy, and the best she claimed to have ever had. All was very good. Very pleased. A must on your to do list. We will be back!

I can see why my Dad really likes this place. It has that warm homey feeling that so many of the Fort Lauderdale and Boca restaurants lack with all of their chrome and shiny things. Instead, this feels like you've been invited to dine in someone's house. Starting with the parking lot that's a bit tight. :) Inside, a handful of tables and chairs spaced nicely so that you can enjoy your own meal and talk without having to listen to the folks at the next table over. Great service from what I understand are regulars who have been running this place for a long while. Good southern cooking, kicked up a notch. I insisted that we start with the fried pickles, because my Dad and his girlfriend had never had such a thing. Rather than rounded slices, these were long and thin slivers in a tasty batter and hot as all get out from the fryer. And a nice small pot of a tangy dip that went perfectly. For mains, I had the pork chop with mac & cheese and the brussels sprouts. The chop was a good three inches thick and topped with a cherry sauce. Perfectly cooked, more than half of this monster went home because I had to eat all of the two sides. I've never had pistachios with my sprouts and further, I've never had them "leaved" like this. They're usually whole. What a great idea! My dad had the meatloaf and his girlfriend had the skirt steak. And again, more than half of each of these went home too. So much food! For dessert, we split a piece of the apple crumble with a scoop of lovely french vanilla ice cream. Excellent meal and I can't wait to come back.

The three stars are solely for the delicious food. However, the service was not at all up to par. A hostess made it clear to us that she was annoyed we had so many people (8) in our lunch party. We watched other tables that came in after us order and enjoy their food way before our order was taken. It seemed like we were being punished for having the gall to show up with eight people. And they don't give separate checks or accept American Express.

I come here often for the Tuna sandwich at lunch. I enjoy cheating the diet with the Mac and cheese. You can always go healthy with the famous Brussel Sprouts Pistachio.... Once again can help but get the cheese cake and cancel out all healthy benefits of great tuna.

After hearing about this place from a friend my wife and I decided to check it out since it was nearby. I hate it more than anything when we pick a bad place but this was not anything close to bad! I love Mason Jar!!! I really enjoyed the down home country relaxed atmosphere, it a very relaxing place! We started off with some fried pickles which were perfect! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because when I first ordered I chose the chicken pot pie (due to the fact that I saw it on all the tables) and I was soooo excited to get it!! 5 minutes later the waitress came back with the terrible news of no more pot pie . So I chose the fried chicken with carrots and mashed potatoes and WOW it was amazing, esp the gravy!! My wife got the meatloaf and it was super moist and everything you love about meatloaf. If you like great home cooked meals then this is the place for you!

Upping my review to four stars, even though I wrote my original review just under a month ago. Why, you ask? Two reasons: 1. Came here for lunch today, and I took my own advice this time and ordered the French Onion soup (and a small salad), and the Frozen Lemonade dessert. I left here oh-so happy. This shall henceforth be my order. 2. As my mom and I were getting ready to leave, I realized that, much to my horror, I had locked the keys inside my mom's car. You see, when we got here, it was POURING down rain. So I got my umbrella and ran to my mom's side of the car to make sure she didn't get soaked. I was in such a hurry to grab her portable oxygen machine and keep her dry that I didn't realize the keys were on the seat. Of course, we discovered that the keys were locked in the car just before the restaurant was due to close after lunch. The weather was horrid, and we resigned ourselves to the fact that we'd have to sit outside in the monsoon. Well, our waitress Paula (who, it turns out, is the owner) saw that my mom was on oxygen and insisted that we stay inside, even though this meant she couldn't leave. So I called roadside assistance and we waited inside for them to get there. They arrived about 40 minutes after the restaurant closed, and had we waited outside, we would've gotten completely drenched (and probably would've gotten sick as a result). Paula was so sweet to let us stay, and we knew darn well she didn't have to. That kind of service goes a very long way in my book.

My family and I had dinner at the Mason Jar last week and the food was absolutely amazing! We're quite old fashioned therefore sharing was a must. The beef short ribs are to die for, chicken pot pie and meatloaf we're nothing short of authentic down home country cuisine and the seafood stew was nothing like I have ever tasted. Each entree came with two sides of our choosing and they were equally tasty. The Brussels sprouts... delicious!!! Spoon corn bread was a cross between corn bread and bread pudding exquisite. The service was great and everyone treated us well. For dessert we had carrot cake and the creme burlee...the carrot cake was the best I've ever had

The inside setting and food items make me think I might be at grandma's house out in the country. The décor and general ambiance exudes a country, albeit frumpy, kind of feeling with its richer tones and more traditional furnishings. In all it comes off very nicely and I have to admit that I like it, which is a good compliment, since my preferred style is one that kicks more to exotic. The food is kind of country too, being basically a menu comprised of "comfort food" all prepared in a home style of cooking with items like fried chicken, meatloaf and strawberry chocolate pie; although on my first visit I went for the special of fish tacos which proved themselves to be delicious. The portions served are, to say the least, larger than those served in most restaurants and all of the prices reasonable. One outstanding feature that I particularly liked was the service staff also had that warm, friendly sort of laid back, polite, easy going country style themselves; nothing was done in rush or at least they didn't make it appear that is was. One thing, sort of funny in a way and being a peccadillo entirely of my own, is that I happen to loath "mason jars." Having been raised in the backwoods of impoverished Appalachia I had to deal with those darn things every fall, canning enough food to ward off a winter of starvation. Consequently, I never found anything delightful, romantic or amusing about those stupid gull damn'd, *(^%$# , no good, ughly, worthless jars. So, when my ice tea came served in one, it took me a moment to come to my senses and realize that, after all, I was seated in the Mason Jar Café. Thank goodness, however, their jars were only pseudo in that it they have handles and aren't at all the same as those I had come to bitterly hate as a child. For a good tip, there are more than the three regular and one handicapped parking spaces to the Mason Jar Café that one sees when approaching it off of Federal Highway. If you cut around to the backside, there is plenty of parking along with another entrance way through the rear.

Home style cooking at its finest. Started with some rich and delicious lobster bisque that was incredible. Next, shared an amazing tuna sandwich with sprouts and guacamole and a hint of jalapeño, nice. Finished with half a meatloaf sandwich that was fresh and incredibly flavorful. I found this place through yelp so we decided to go there tonight for dinner. I had the Country Fried Chicken with the Brussel sprouts and Sweet Potato Mash as my sides. My husband had the Ribs with Cheesy Mashed Potatoes and Mac N Cheese as his sides. We both enjoyed our meals and although the sides are a bit small they make up for that with the portion of meat that you receive. It was a nice atmosphere and the wait staff was friendly. We will be going back to try some of their other dishes.

If you want some good "home cooking", you can get it at The Mason Jar. Its not the prettiest place, but the food is fresh and well made. I had the beef short ribs and they were outstanding. Very flavorful and so tender that they fell off the bone and no need for a knife. Sides were good: mac and cheese and green bean casserole. Friends had the skirt steak and liked it very much, along with the wedge salad, lobster bisque and ravioli. Chocolate bomba for dessert was a good way to end. We had no problem getting a table on Friday night at 8, but it was as busy as I had ever seen it. Overall, just a good place for good food that I am glad is close by.

Reservations for a group of 4 and seated promptly at 6 30. Curtis, our server, was pleasant and efficient from start to finish. Impressed with the menu because there is truely something for everyone. Decent wine by the glass or bottle. Skipped apps because read how large the portions are. Glad we did. I had the crispy duck , cheesy mashed potatoes and the famous brussels sproats. Fantastic. Other diners had grilled pork tenderloin with pineapple jalapeno sauce, crab cakes and salmon with a citrus sauce. All amazed at quality of the entrees.We split aslice of flourless chocolate cake for desert. It was warm and topped with vanilla ice cream.Yum! Don't let the name and somewhat casual setting fool you. This is not a Cracker Barrel. This is serious food served in a casual setting.

Super homey, comfortable, and cozy. Ahhh I swear I was so relaxed I could have mistaken the feeling for being at home over the holidays. Environment: Old Country Buffet meets your Grandma's house? I felt like I was somewhere in the South at a neighborhood diner turned somebody's home. No people, not your average SoFlo greaseball diner. I mean a diner with very, very sweet people, a slow easy pace, lace n doilies, and comfort food oozing with love from the kitchen. Yup, this is Mason Jar Cafe! My friend from NC brought me here as it's one of her go-to neighborhood lunch joints. We both got the Turkey Avocado on wheat. SO GOOD! Like, I could eat it every day kind and never get bored GOOD! They roast turkeys every few days and that, my friends is what's between the perfectly toasted slices of bread. Got the side of pistachio brussel sprouts which were so great, it would make any non veggie eater a believer! Ice tea came in, of course a cute mason jar. Location is convenient so easy to pop in while shopping. The owner is sweet as she can be, food came quick, and we both left with a warm fuzzies in our tummies.

This is another restaurant where we bookmarked for a long time, but never actually visit it. So, what better time to visit on a rainy Saturday afternoon. My wife and I are "Early Birds". Not that we are trying to go for the early birdd dinner specials, but we are used to have dinning early. Since this place opens for dinner at 5:30pm, we were already hungry before we got there. My first thought as I walked through the front door is: felt like country. The decor of the restaurant might feel outdated, but I guess its got it's own little charm. After all, most of the items on the menu seems like rustic, comfort food to me. With that in mind, we decided to order the Fried Green Tomatoes to start the evening off. we had read rave reviews about thee food in this place, so the expectation was very high. However, when the dish arrived, we were a little disappointed. The tomato itself was okay, but the breading on the outside was very hard with no flavors. I am not sure what the sauce was on top, but it didnt add anything to the dish. And I think they can do without those crab meats they throw on top. Fortunately, the entree we ordered turned out to be terrific. I ordered the Mahi Mahi. I got this generous portion of Mahi Mahi topped with some crusted walnuts with caramelized onions on top. The fish was cooked well and I really enjoyed my bite with the onions. Also, the mac and cheese I ordered as my sides was great. My wife had their Chicken Fried Steak and it was excellent. I love the thin and crispy breading on the outside, and the meat was nice and juicy inside. And, it had a lot of good flavors. Also, the fries she ordered as the sides was great. And the portion was huge, we only managed to eat half of it. Over all, it was a pleasant dinning experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Even the decor might be a bit outdated, but it is neat and clean. We might come back again.

We stopped here to eat before a concert at the culture room since we could grab parking early then walk to the restaurant. This place was pretty good. For starters we ordered the fried pickles and the pigs In a blanket. The fried pickles were good, not small chips, they were really big. The pigs were basic pigs in a blanket, nothing special in my opinion. For dinner I got the fried chicken with Mac n cheese and the corn bread. The fried chicken is sweet, almost like its breaded with corn flakes. It was all fresh and delicious. My hubby got the special of the day which was a NY strip, I didn't personally care for it, but he seemed to enjoy it. We also tried the Brussel sprouts with pistachios (holy butter). Overall the experience was pleasant.

One of the best meals I've had in Broward County. To start, I had the Phyllo Triangles, which are 2 freshly baked pastries stuffed with decadent goat cheese, cranberries and mushrooms with drops scattered on the plate of a mango sauce. I am SO glad I came alone, because I needed 2 of those! So warm and fresh, and the ingredient combination is out of this world! A very solid appetizer. I had read the Yelp raves about their fried chicken. I normally don't care for chicken. Then I saw the pictures, and that gravy on top of the breading looked tempting, so I ordered it. It is the best fried chicken I have ever had. The gravy on top was just perfect. The chicken steak was tender and moist!!! The breading was thick, but somehow, not oily. It's a HUGE portion. I ate the WHOLE thing. This entrée alone is a great reason to return -- for me! It comes with 2 sides. You choose the sides from a list that includes mac & cheese, sweet potato mash, and several others. I had the cheesy mashed potatoes and the pistachio Brussels sprouts. The latter were absolutely amazing! Next time, I'm having the same thing, only I'll order both sides of Brussels sprouts. Even if you normally don't like Brussels sprouts, you'll love these: firstly they're cut open (not in their normal round shape), and they add pistachio with what I believe is a little bit of butter. Seriously, try them. You get 2 sides! If you don't like 'em, you'll be plenty of full anyway. Experiment! Needless to say, after this feast, there was no room for dessert for me! I think next time I'm going there with someone, so I can share food and taste new things on the menu! Total for appetizer, entrée and iced tea came down to $28.90 with tax, plus tip. I can't recall the name of my server, but she as well as the lady refilling my were both so very pleasant and friendly. Excellent dining experience!

My boyfriend made reservations here for our one year anniversary. I was pleasantly surprised as I had never tried it before but heard great things. When we arrived for our dinner reservations there were a couple families and couples having dinner. Not very busy on a Tuesday night. We were greeted right away and taken to our table by a window. It took a little bit for our waiter to come to us to take our drink orders, but we were not in any hurry so we waited patiently. Once our waiter came over, we ordered beer and I asked for a recommendation on wine pairings for the meals I had in mind that I was considering for my entree. He gave me a wonderful recommendation on the Sauvignon Blanc to pair with Chicken. Plus side, they had half off wine bottles and by the glass on Tuesday! Unfortunately we did not order any appetizers though they sounded incredible, we ordered our entrees instead. Chicken Fried Chicken please! Our entrees came out about 15-20 minutes after ordering, sizzling hot. I can't tell you enough how much we loved the Chicken Fried Chicken entree with the Mac n cheese (heavy tasting with cream and butter and topped with crushed goldfish crackers) and green been casserole (cooked perfectly with mushrooms as well.) I made it my mission to finish the very generous portion. The gravy made with cream and nutmeg was absolutely delicious. I wanted to order it to-go! We finished our meals without any room for dessert, but we know we'll be back. Great place for family and friend gatherings, dates, and small special occasions. Staff is very friendly and attentive once they've greeted you. Prices are validated once you taste there food. You can tell they put a lot of love into their recipes. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!

Yes...5 stars... Felt like I was at someone's house. We ate there a few weeks ago and I am seriously craving the Brussel sprouts! Started with...a very long named soup...basically a kitchen sink of soups..slight curry flavor...Totally deliciously! Fried pickles....perfect! Love they are large pieces and not chips. Fried green tomatoes...not crazy about the breading, but enjoyed it. I had Edgar's famous seafood stew. It was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved. I ended up eating his filet from the porterhouse and it was Sooo good! I had fries and Brussel sprouts as my sides...OMG! those brussel sprouts were sooooo good (I have been trying to like Brussel sprouts in general and these made me love them). Husband has porterhouse special. It was very very good! Mac and cheese, yum! We had the sampler dessert. The frozen lemonade cake was sooo good...even though I was full I just kept eating! Typically canned soda drives me nuts...but they had Dr. Browns! Can't wait to go back!

Had dinner tonight with friends at one of my favorite restaurants. It's like dinner at grandmas. We have dined here 5 -6 times a year and r never disappointed. Tonight I had a crab burger, perfect Two others had flank steak both said it was the best ever One had salmon that was finished with gusto I started with tomato blue cheese and bacon bisque. The side dishes are worth the trip. Candied organic carrots. Cheese mashed. Green beans corn bread. And others It's small. There's parking in the rear The wait staff are more like friends then part of the staff Warning they take all credit cards but not America express They do honor reservations In the past I have had and enjoyed Meat loaf Chicken pot pie Hamburger Short ribs Roasted duck Fried chicken And always specials. The French onion soup and the tomato soup are probably the best soups I have ever had in my life!!!!! The Brussel sprouts and corn bread were to die for.. It was Wednesday so the wine was half off... The decor is so cute you feel like you are in someone's house... Service is great as well! We will definitely be back!

I've never been disappointed. Everything I've ordered here tops other restaurants when it comes to southern comfort food. Fried chicken is moist and whatever secret combination they use for the batter is light and mouthwatering. Chicken pot pie with phyllo crust...oh my! The Brussel sprouts are do flavorful. And if you like fried pickles, you'll find the ultimate best you've ever had. Really thickly sliced and perfectly battered. Staff is always friendly and on a busy night, you will hear the other patrons discussing their multitude of favorites that they've tried which will leave you yearning to come back for more. The staff has never let me down. Very friendly and attentive. A must-try in Fort Lauderdale!

Taste was full of texture, spices were balanced and presentation completed it. 2 SIDES: BRUSSEL SPROUTS with PISTACHIOS, I've never enjoyed a vegetable more than this side. Large portion presented well with full flavor and prepared respecting the vegetable. CORN SPOON BREAD, large piece that I'd consider more of a dessert with the attention given to its details.

Heard some good things so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out for dinner. Although the food didnt't blow us away..the service was great. To start, we had the lobster bisque which was pretty good. I'm a sucker for a bowl of bisque. -The Roasted Duckling - (crispy with a honey & thyme glaze.) The duck itself and the sauce was pretty good but it wasn't crispy. I was looking forward to that crispy skin and it was lacking. -Spinach & Pine Nut Ravioli - (With a pomodoro sauce & drizzled with basil cream.) It was ok. The flavors were a little bland, but we actually put some of the Roasted Duckling sauce on it and it completely transformed the dish. We were happier with it after that. -Corn spoon bread, sweet potato mash, brussel sprouts, and organic glazed carrots for sides. The sides were good, I think the carrots would've been better if glazed with the sauce used for the duck. (Couldn't get enough of the Roasted Duckling sauce....) the carrots just tasted steamed. The food and restaurant has a homey feel to it. Good food and great service.

Always a good choice! We have been here quite a few times for lunch and it's phenomenal. Tried it for dinner tonight and wasn't disappointed. We got the wedge salad (the blue cheese dressing is out of this world) but I wanted a lighter dressing so our server suggested an herb vinaigrette. Delish! Then we split the meatloaf dinner. The gravy they put on top I would drink through a straw. It's that good. The loaf itself was cooked to perfection! As for the staff, we always see the same familiar faces which is nice. They're always personable and on the ball!

I love this place and have been here a few times. The tomato soup is a must have (and I really don't like tomato soup). The brussell sprouts used to be so delicious, but this last visit something was awry. Maybe just a bad day, but I did not find the flavor I've had in my past experiences. I read somewhere they had new ownership and maybe this is the reason why, but I'll try them another time in the future and if they come out like they did on this visit, they'll be removed from the "must have" list I have in my mind. I like the food here quite a bit; I find the service/wait staff to be very good; and I like the ambiance. I would recommend you give it a try. I would have given it a 4 rating had the brussell sprouts not been a disaster (whereas they used to be to die for).

My Mason burger was ok - but just ok. Really nothing special. The hostess was rude and unwelcoming as soon as we arrived. And her temperament did not improve. She seemed truly out of sorts because we had more than six people in our party. Really we should have turned around right then and there and gone to a friendlier place but we were hungry and decided to overlook her rudeness. Once seated it took them a good 30 minutes (and that's being generous) to take our order and at least that long to bring the food out to us. Other patrons got seated after us, where done eating and paid their bill before our food arrived. With so many dining options, you would think a small restaurant would go out of their way to make the experience pleasant. If you like friendly service AND a delicious meal - this place isn't it.

I never gave 5 stars before, this is the first!! Business lunch. I came here recommend by a friend of mine and he described it as home cooked comfort food, he was right. I started off with the French Onion Soup with Gruyere Cheese... Perfect. Cheese melts So nice in the onion broth. You dont have to use a knife to cut cheese. You will find your self eating the cheese off the side bowl.. I did LOL.... For lunch my friend recommend the Beef Short Rib Sandwich. It was spot on, beef was so tender it tasted like tender Brisket. It has a great bun (not store bought) sautéed red onion and chipotle mayo and you have to get the Fries!! I asked for a side of BBQ (homemade) and extra chipotle mayo to dip them in...perfect... I love to Dip! To drink I had 50/50 tea which is 50 sweet and 50 unsweetened, to my surprise when my glass was refilled "without asking" a sever not assigned to my table had both pitchers and poured 50/50 and I smiled and said wow that is awesome service!! I didn't even have to mention the 50/50 thing, it shows the communication of the staff, a true Team! Overall a great dining experience with top notch food, great exceptional service and nice atmosphere. I will definitely come back and try something new because if the other items are as great as that Short Rib Sandwhich I want to try the whole menu!!

While the place advertises "home cooking", it's not really. Meatloaf and country fried chicken are the extent of their home cooking. The limited menu is complimented by nightly specials. Their serving portions are generous. The phyllo triangle appetizer was unusual and very good. The carrot cake dessert was dry, nothing special, and even maybe a bit stale. Service was good but it seemed to take a long time to get the food from the kitchen. Recommend reservations if you don't go early. Interesting mix of clientele - families with kids, elderly, gay, and couples for date night. Ample parking in the rear.

Service was extremely slow but in their defense they were busy for dinner with only two servers. Our waitress was the blonde (I cannot remember her name) she was nice. We were there an hour n half and never got a refill on drinks. I got the country fried chicken and it was excellent. My husband got the short ribs and neither of us cared much for them. Could've been better for a $30 entree. I really wanted to like it so we may give the lunch menu a try.

Yes, the food is fantastic... yet, my favorite part about dining here is actually the service. The staff here is extremely attentive, helpful & darn right fun. Warning: You will leave here with a happily stuffed gut full of yummy comfort food and a sore face because the servers will have you laughing and smiling throughout your entire meal.

Great local restaurant, super friendly service and yummy home-cooked style food. My husband is a vegetarian and loves the ravioli and choice of veggie sides, especially the corn spoon bread. The pistachio crusted salmon is excellent for dinner and an all time favorite is the smoked jalapeño sandwich for lunch. The incredible house-made shoe-string French fries come with a sandwich or you can choose among several other sides. Dinner comes with 2 sides. Home made desserts, quaint atmosphere.

Just had a really wonderful dinner here. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable, as well as friendly. I had the crab cake sandwich - it rivaled the best crab cakes in Maryland! This place outshines every other restaurant we've patronized thus far on vacation. Well worth the prices, which were fair and affordable considering the amount of food given. Super impressed and my tummy was doing the happy dance!

Still love this place but I wouldn't order the chicken pot pie again. It was bland a filled with too many potatoes. I had to keep adding salt and pepper. If I'm going to eat so many carbs and fat it needs to be amazing. Our waitress was also overwhelmed with too many tables so the service was mediocre.

With the extensive menu at mason jar it may take a while to decide. Let me help, The meatloaf, fried chicken and pork chops are dialed. The brussel sprouts with pistacios are a must as is the spoon bread. I have never encountered anything but happy, friendly servers, and do ask for the specials, they sell out fast for a reason. Save room for dessert, or share, the crème brulee is fab, and the coffee is fresh brewed. Enjoy.

This place was amazing. It took a minute for them to notice our arrival, but once we were sat the service was excellent. The restaurant is really clean. It makes you feel like you are eating at a family member's house. The food is modern comfort. We tried pigs in a blanket, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, country fried chicken, and chicken pot pie. Everything was excellent! The only thing I didn't like was the canned sodas (but that is just a personal preference). Try this place if you are a local or a tourist looking to be low key.
